The Union Home Minister Mr Rajnath Singh has on Thursday urged the writers to stop returning their awards. The Home Minister expressed his dissatisfaction over the Sahitya and padma awardees returning their awards to the Government. Mr Singh termed the ongoing process as a ‘political conspiracy’ while questioning the awardees over their silence during the congress rule, when communal riots took place.
It has been a Government vs the awardees situation as the awardees began protesting against communal riots in various parts of India by returning their awards to the Central Government.
“All the awards given to the awardees by the president have a national emblem on them. It is an honor to the nation. Returning an award is nothing but dishonoring the nation and not the government in office. All these are happening with political mottoes”, the Home Minister said in an interview.
Mr Rajnath Singh also pointed out the issue of intolerance in the country. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has never given caste a priority and hasn’t tried to create any difference.
“If we have did any wrong, we could not have won the elections in 2014. The congress party has ruled the country for the majority of time since the independence in 1947 and communal riots have taken place during their time which have even killed more than 4000 people in a single state and the thing is no one has offered their resignation at that time”, he added.
Speaking on the Dadri and Karnataka incidents, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that he could not involve in the law and order of the states even if he has special interest to deal with the case. Mr Singh has also defended PM Modi saying that he has nothing to do with the law and order of the states, which is vested completely in the hands of the state governments, India Today reported.
