NEW DELHI: A court here in Delhi has today, received a complaint against the Union Education Minister Ms.Smriti Irani alleging that the Minister has provided a wrong affidavit of her college degree in the recent General Elections held in 2014.
Petitioner Mr.Ahmed khan who has filed a complaint against the Delhi Minister has stated that, Ms.Smriti Irani has not been honest in the Election affidavit. Mr.Khan alleged that the minister has claimed that she has received an Arts degree from the Delhi University’s school of correspondence in her Election affidavit in 2004. However, in the recent General Elections the Union Education Minister Ms.Smriti Irani said, that she has pursued a Commerce degree from the same university.
The Delhi court has accepted the petition and said that it would examine the evidence pertaining to the allegations on August 28th.
Ms.Irani a former Television actress and probably the youngest Minister in the Narendra Modi cabinet has not yet commented on the issue. Sources said that the issue might land the Central Minister in trouble.
Jitender Singh Tomar, was recently arrested by the Police over allegedly providing fake degree certificates. He was sent for remand as of now. On the other hand,the political opposition has started demanding the step down of the Union Minister, the BBC reports.
The issue comes as a major blow to the Union Government, which has been still suffering with the row over External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj helping Lalith Modi in acquiring travel documents. The veteran BJP leader Mr.Advani has earlier commented the Government, saying that there are chances of another emergency in the present days.
