Kim Jong-un, North Korea leader, said that his country needs to be ready with nuclear weapons for use “any time” according to report from state media.
He told the military leaders that N. Korea would review its military posture so that they can be able to launch pre-emptive talks.
His remarks came after UN voted in favor of the North Korea sanctions proposed by USA and China. The sanctions are due to the recent missile launch and nuclear test.
On Thursday, North Korea fired into the sea 6 short-range projectiles.
A spokesman of South Korea informed Yonhap news agency that the firing of the projectiles happened at around 10:00 local time. The defense Ministry said that they could be guided missiles or rockets.
On Friday, KCNA quoted Mr. Kim saying “we must always be ready to fire our nuclear weapons any time.”
At a military exercise, Kim said that the survival of North Korea was under threats from its enemies.
He said that the only way they can be able to defend their sovereignty is to strengthen their nuclear capability.
The correspondent of BBC Korea, Evans Steve, said that the remarks that Kim made are common in N. Korea adding that experts doubt the ability of the country to develop a small bomb that can fit on a feasible missile, but they seem to be heading towards that direction.
The US swiftly replied to the announcement of Kim Jong-un.
Commander Bill Urban, the Pentagon spokesman, said that the US urges N. Korea to avoid actions that may bring about tensions but instead concentrate on abiding by its international commitments and obligations.
Some of the strongest sanctions against North Korea were voted in by the UN Security Council on Wednesday.
Any cargo into and from the country has to be inspected by UN member states. 12 organizations and 16 new individuals have also been blacklisted.
The new sanctions are a response to the recent missiles launch and nuclear tests in North Korea. These violated the sanctions that were already in existence.
