The Republican front-runner Donald Trump is on his way to become the party’s nominee after a key victory in the Indiana polls on Tuesday. This made Ted Cruz to drop out of the nomination contest.
The billionaire has never held any public office but has been able to overcome predictions by his opponents that his campaign would implode. He can now get ready for the November 8th elections of which Hillary Clinton may be his Democratic opponent.
Bernie Sanders won in the Indiana polls over Clinton, slowing her campaign.
At his victory rally in New York, Trump walked onto the stage with his wife and some family members.
It is expected that in June 7th, he will wind up the nomination but John Kasich, Ohio governor, has vowed that he will remain in the race till the very last date.
Trump referred to the Indiana victory a huge one and did not hesitate to direct fire at Clinton.
“We’re going after Hillary Clinton,” he said. “She will not be a great president, she will not be a good president, she will be a poor president. She doesn’t understand trade.”
Reince Priebus via a tweet mentioned that Trump is the party’s presumptive nominee. H said that they will have to unite and be focused.
Ted Cruz announced the end of his campaign at a rally in Indiana, with his wife on his side. He sounded beaten but defiant.
“Together we left it all on the field in Indiana,” said Cruz, a US senator from Texas. “We gave it everything we got. But the voters chose another path, and so with a heavy heart, but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of our nation, we are suspending our campaign.”
Some members of the crowd were shocked by his decision. He was the remaining closest and serious challenger of Donald Trump.
