So far, nothing has been offered by the French electoral season apart from a sorry display of politics. The entire French population has been forced to watch its politicians beating about the bush when it comes to legal trouble instead of presenting an educated debate concerning policy options and electoral programs.
After several weeks in which French media has been obsessing about corruption scandals that are surrounding Marine Le Pen and François Fillon, French citizen finally took a glimpse of a very comprehensive political exchange during the first presidential debate that was aired live in Television. It was very unfortunate that after the single night debate in which all of the five aspirants discussed their vision for the future of the country, the campaign fully went back to the gutter in the very next day.
Yet, another distraction attracted the attention of the public on Thursday; Francois Fillon who is one of the presidential candidates accused President Francois Hollande of being a ring leader in converting operation from a black cabinet in the Elysee Palace with the intension of influencing the judicial investigation against him.
This populist drift is termed by the citizens as a shame, as the weeks to come are considered to be very important. France has found itself at cross roads since the decision that will be made by its next government will determine the future of the country and also have great effect on the European Union and the balance of its alliances,
Jean Luc Melenchon, a communist-backed is known to be a very stubborn revolutionary whose aim is to draw France close to Russia.
Benoit Hamon is another young socialist who is almost naïve. He is a politician with idealistic dreams such as providing every citizen with a minimum income freely without demanding them to do any kind of work or activity in return.
Francois Fillon is a pro-marketer republican. He views himself as a gravedigger of public services and one of his aims is to slash a portion of civil service jobs to fill the pocket of the rich citizen including himself.
Another candidate is Emmanuel Macron. He is a quintessential centrist. He agrees with almost everyone if not all.
Lastly is Marine Le Pen who barks out what is termed as xenophobic arguments as soon one states Islam or immigrants. She views both Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin as her role models while dreaming of a Fruit.
