Donald Trump, the US Republican Presidential candidate has garnered sufficient number of delegates for him to become the party’s flag bearer.
Mr. Trump has in his favor 1,238 delegates, after having defeated 16 contenders for the same position. He has by now gotten 1 extra number to the required.
Republicans are expected to finalize their nomination at the convention in Cleveland in July.
Mr. Trump suggested on Wednesday that he should face Bernie Sanders in a TV debate before he goes into the 7th June primary.
Mr. Sanders replied via a tweet he said that: “Game on. I look forward to debating Donald Trump in California before the June 7 primary.”
A quick analysis
This may have been foreseen from far, having won in almost all the primaries that he has been in. It was expected that Trump may cross 1,237 limits with the New Jersey and California primaries on 7th June.
The Associated Press has already declared him the winner.
Of course the nomination isn’t official until the balloons drop at the Republican convention in July, but the desperate attempts of the #NeverTrump movement to throw any obstacles in his path are essentially extinguished.
Some of his other rivals such as Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and John Kasich are yet to pledge their support for him; Mr. Trump will be able to take the win even without their support.
The Republican will most definitely use the Cleveland convention to show off and probably attack his critics, an act he seems not to shy away from.
