After the much awaited Uttarakhand floor test was conducted on Tuesday under the supervision of the Honorable Supreme Court of India, the Congress leaders came out of the house all smiles predicting an easy win for them. The results are expected to be announced by the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Harish Rawat, flashed a smile and a V-sign but refused to reveal any numbers of Tuesday’s true vote. “I respect the Supreme Court’s order to keep it a secret. However, I am assured of the results”, the former Chief Minister said.
Revealing the secret Congress MLA from Nainital, Sarita Arya said “Rawatji may keep it a secret. But, we are party workers and we are excited. We had 33 Votes and the BJP got 28″. If the numbers revealed by the MLA are to believed, it means that the Congress party has managed to win two votes more than the number needed to prove its majority in the house.
The floor test comes after a long political-tussle between the former Congress government in the state and the Central government. Earlier, the Central government has imposed President’s rule in Uttarakhand – citing political crisis, in which nine Congress MLAs voted BJP on the budget-related Appropriation Bill on March 18. The House Speaker has later on disqualified the rebel MLAs and the decision was withheld by the High Court and the apex Court by not allowing them to take part in the trust vote.
