CHENNAI: Amid a wide range of speculations over the person who will lead the AIADMK party after the demise of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, it has been made official on Saturday that Sasikala Natarajan the close friend and confidante of the former chief minister has taken over as the general secretary of AIADMK party.
“In the presence of the members of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and its party workers, it has been unanimously decided that Sasikala Natarajan will lead the party as the general secretary”, AIADMK said in a statement. It was the position that the late Ms. Jayalalithaa held when she was the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.
Referring to the death of Ms.Jayalalithaa in her speech, Sasikala said, “She struggled for 75 days after being hospitalized. She fought till the end and eventually, the almighty has called his beloved child to him. It is through her vision that the AIADMK party will move forward”.
She said that the former Chief minister was her life and that she was with Jayalalithaa since she was 29. “I cannot digest the fact that she is no more among us”, said Sasikala with tears in her eyes. “I believe that the party cadre is the strength of AIADMK. It is through their hardship that AIADMK has been in a winning position in back to back elections. I believe that the party cadre will support me as I look forward to leading them in the direction that Amma has shown us”.
Also, the new AIADMK party chief announced that the Birth Centenary Anniversary celebrations of the AIADMK founder and former Chief minister MG Ramachandran will be held throughout the year and that a formal request will be sent to the Central government to release a coin in honor of MGR, the TOI reported.
