The biggest football match in the world will be played on 3rd December as part of the 13th Week La Liga match this season.
The venue for the match, termed as the clash of titans, is Nou Camp – Barcelona’s home stadium. Some would prefer calling it Camp Nou.
Barcelona welcomes rivals Real Madrid to Camp Nou on Saturday afternoon with kick-off scheduled for 3:15pm UK time.
Will I be able to watch the match on TV?
According to FA rules, no match is aired live on British TV between 2.45 pm and 5.15pm. That basically means the UK fans will not be able to watch the match live on Sky Sports.
But Sky Sports will air the recorded match from 5.15 pm, as it has always been doing in recent years.
What’s the reason for this? The long term rule set by the British broadcasting implies that Sky Sports cannot air the match live.
While speaking to Cadena Ser – Spanish radio station, the La Liga president said that: “The Barcelona and Real Madrid game will be played on Saturday at 4:15 p.m [Spanish time]. The game will not be aired in England because of the TV embargo that is placed at that time.”
The technical staff had a number of considerations to play the match. Setting it for 6pm would have meant the Asian market stays up very late, while at 1pm would have been too early for the American fans.
The decision was thus arrived at with hopes that they would maximize the Asian and American audiences.
In explaining his decision, he said that the timetabling is something that has taken quite a lot of time to prepare. He went on to say that the results for their scheduling have been apparent by the quality of players in the league.
“We are continuously looking at ways that we can improve our product. For example, we have installed aerial cameras in seven venues and by the end of the season, we will have that in three more stadiums.”
Status of Barcelona and Real Madrid
This is the first time Real Madrid and Barcelona are meeting this season.
The position of the reigning La Liga champions isn’t good as they are six points behind their competitor.
Of all the past 8 matches, Barcelona have not been able to win and that means they have to escape with a win on Saturday to liven up their dreams of maintain the cup.
Their coach Enrique seemed to be in disbelief of this record when he said “This is the first time I’ve seen a team walk all over us since I became coach” since.
Real Madrid on the other hand seem to be well placed with a comfortable six-points lead. Their lead was increased after beating 2 – 1 Sporting Gijon at the Bernabeu.
Christiano Ronaldo score 2 goals at the match, increasing the distance with which he has over Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
