Things have started gaining pace for the selection of team India’s head coach as the BCCI’s advisory committee is scheduled to meet in Kolkata on Tuesday, to interview 21 candidates shortlisted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Though the list of the candidates selected by the BCCI was not made public, sources confirmed that former Indian captain Anil Kumble and former cricketers Pravin Amre are among the list of applicants to be interviewed on Tuesday.
According to the official sources, the advisory committee consisting of former Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Saurav Ganguly are entitled with the job of interviewing the shortlisted 21 applicants and giving their choice on the head coach for the Indian national team by June 22. If everything goes as expected, the BCCI will announce the name of the new head coach on June 24th, during the working committee meeting in Dharamsala.
It is understood that Kumble and Amre would present themselves before the panel with the presentations about their future plans for the development of team India. It is not clear whether Ravi Shashtri and Patil will also be interviewed on Tuesday. However, Patil confirmed that he has not received any official information from the BCCI on meeting the advisory committee in Kolkata.
The BCCI has earlier advertised for applications from interested individuals for the post of team India’s head coach on June 1st. The board has received as many as 57 applications, out of which 21 names have been shortlisted and referred to the advisory panel. Ganguly defied from making public the list of selected candidates but assured that the new coach will be finalized by June 24.
A BCCI official said that the advisory panel along with coordinator Sanjay Jagdale have already done enough ‘home work’ on the candidates traveling to Kolkata on Tuesday, before interviewing them.
Apart from Shastri, Patil and Kumble, current selector Vikram Rathour, Venkatesh Prasad, Balwinder Singh Sandhu and former Bangladesh coach Stuart Law also applied for the job, the cricbuzz report said.
