In efforts to calm the tensions created between the former Barcelona boss and the Barca veteran, Pep has insisted that contrary to the popular belief, he did not push Ronaldinho out of the club. He explained that Ronaldinho made a personal decision to shift to AC Milan without anyone forcing him.
Many sports analysts have always speculated that the current Manchester City boss sold off Ronaldinho to AC Milan so that he could pave the way for Messi to shine. It is widely thought that Ronaldinho’s partying lifestyle would have hindered Messi’s rise, reports Goal.Com.
Having relocated from Paris Saint-Germain, the former Brazil international joined Barca in 2003 and had a successful run for five seasons.
He won a Champions League trophy and two La Liga titles with the club. As an individual, he carried home the 2005 Ballon d’Or in addition to two FIFA Player of the Year award.
His victorious run was followed by a couple of disappointing performances including a failure to win Brazil the 2006 World Cup. The club finally sold him in 2008, with most fans and the media believing that his lifestyle had negatively impacted his career.
But Guardiola has come out to his defense saying that he would have love to keep him had it not been for Ronaldinho’s choice to change clubs.
The embattled Manchester City boss said that “Ronaldinho was a spectacular player,” adding that during their meeting, he inquired if he would have wanted to stay. “He told me that he had wanted to leave for a while.”
Ronaldinho returns to Barca as club ambassador
Having worked at Camp Nou for five brilliant years, the Brazilian changed clubs but he has made a comeback, this time round as an ambassador.
Barcelona issued a statement of confirmation that Ronaldinho would be returning to the club in this new role.
Many fondly remember him for the successful five years he had at the club.
“FC Barcelona and Ronaldinho have reached an agreement whereby the Brazilian will become a Club ambassador and representative at various events and activities over the coming years,” read a club statement.
It further expounded that he will be part of the legends Team comprising of former players. These will play matches worldwide and help market Barca and its brands globally. The team will also participate in training sessions, clinics as well as institutional events among other many activities.
