DUBAI: As per the latest Test Rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday, Indian Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has claimed his career-best second rank, next only to South African speedster Dale Steyn.
The leading Indian Off-spinner has jumped up three places and displaced James Anderson and Yashir Shah to take the second-spot in the ICC Test Rankings for bowlers.
Ashwin has been the best bowler in the ongoing series against South Africa, having taken 24 wickets in the series so far. He had played a major role in winning the series for India, by taking 12 wickets in the Nagpur test.
The Off-spinner’s performance in the recent times has helped him to take his tally points from 806 to 851, only 28 points behind when compared to Dale Steyn. On the other hand, Leg-spinner Ravindra Jadeja too has jumped up a spot to occupy the 11th rank in Tests.
Coming to the list of Batsmen, AB de villiers had lost his top spot as Joe Root and Steven smith took a joint-pole position. However, another good performance from AB de villiers in the last test against India may help him to reclaim his top position.
Australia surpassed India in the ICC Test Rankings for teams with 109 points, after winning the series against New Zealand 2-0. India may regain its second position if it records a victory in the last test against South Africa and win the series 3-0.
