Konta’s arrival in Melbourne happened after winning for the second time the WTA title in Sydney over Makarova. She has so far played 9 matches and 18 sets in a row.
The enthusiastic tennis player required 3 hours to beat Makarova. The Briton has overtime proved that she is a true Grand Slam contender.
She was dominant in every game aspect and moved on to bag the first set in just 24 minutes, winning 78% of points on her serve.
She was constantly aggressive throughout the match and left Makarova struggling to get a racquet on the ball in most of the time.
During her opening match, Serena Williams seemed to be in a bad form but did a great job to shove that aside in the match against Strycova.
Her fighting spirit eventually paid off when the American six-time champion won 7-5 6-4.
Many will now wait to see if Konta is ready for the one person who inspired her as an upcoming tennis player.
