The Indian selection committee has on Sunday announced the 15-men squad for the first three ODIs against South Africa. The selectors brought in uncapped all-rounder Gurkeerat Singh from Punjab, who has been consistent in his performances in the recent times in to the ODI squad. On the other hand uncapped Karnataka pacer S Aravind was selected for the T20 Internationals which begins on October 2nd.
The main player who was left out from the team which toured the Bangladesh was Ravindra Jadeja, who has been rested for Gurkeerat who bowls off-spin and Dhawal Kulkarni for Amit Mishra.
“We have selected Gurkeerat, looking on his all-rounder capabilities. The game needs more of the all-rounders. He has been consistent in the recent past”, BCCI selection committee chairman Sandeep Patil said.
The selectors who met in Bangalore for announcing the ODI squad said that they haven’t considered change in the captaincy after Virat Kohli leading India to a Series win in Srilanka. MS Dhoni has stepped down as the Test Captain during the tour of Australia last year.
” we have not discussed anything on the change of captaincy. we have total faith in MS Dhoni as the ODI captain”, Patil said.
“We have selected the squad keeping in view, the nature of the wickets. It is not that we have lost faith in our seamers. we have even discussed about Ishant Sharma, it is not that we have limited him only for Tests.”, he added.
India will play three T20 Internationals, five ODIs and four tests, in a long tour that ends on December 7th. South Africa is expected to arrive in the last week of September, the Espn reported.
