Mumbai Indians Clinched their second IPL title, winning over Chennai Super Kings by 41 runs. This is their second title of the League, after their first in 2013.
Earlier, Chennai Super Kings, having won the toss decided to field first which back fired against the Dhoni led army. Lendi Simmons lead the way for his team with a decisive 68 runs of 45 balls. The only instance where CSK had the moment is in the first over, when Partiv patel returned to the pavilion for a duck of the third ball he faced. There on Mumbai went on to built their innings, with a slow pace until the 14th over.
Rohith Sharma’s rapid fire half century helped Mumbai Indians lay a strong foundation in middle overs. At the death Pollard(36) and Ambati Rayudu(36) took Mumbai to a commendable score of 202/5. Dwayne Bravo was the best bowler for the CSK in the innings with 2/36.
Chennai in their chase, lost Mike Hussey very early in the innings which proved to be very costly to them and led to their downfall. It is important to mention that most of the wins in this year’s IPL by the Chennai, is solely because of the opening pair contributions. It is already known that, Hussey had replaced Mc Cullum who has left the CSK camp for national duties, the Cricbuzz reports.
Dwayne Smith, was the top scorer in the Chennai side with a 48 ball 57 runs. Top Batsmen like Suresh Raina(28) and Dhoni(18) have failed to contribute to the side, which lead CSK close to losing the match. Eventually, Chennai were all out for 161. Mc Clenaghan, with a impressive figures of 3/25 was the top performer for Mumbai.
