Speaking on the judgement of the Justice Lodha’s panel over the IPL betting scandal, Former Test Batsman and also the mentor of the suspended IPL franchisee Rajasthan Royals, Rahul Dravid said that he respects the decision of the panel to suspend the owners’ of the teams for two years, but felt that the court’s decision was disappointing for the careers of the young players.
Refusing to comment on the specifics of the IPL verdict, Rahul Dravid opined that the Verdict would hurt all the people associated with the Indian Cricket.
“It is disappointing that the actions of one or two, have a major impact on many players. Not only me, but in a situation like this, the one’s who are most affected are the people at the bottom of the pyramid”, he said.
Speaking on the future of the youngsters in the two suspended teams, Rahul said “It is not difficult for the top coaches and support staff to get picked by the franchisees. Top players from both sides can easily be picked by the franchisees. But, what matters is the future of the youngsters. They rarely get selected and miss out”.
However, Rahul said that he respects the judgement of the court. Clarifying to a question from the media over the involvement of the coaches and mentors to recognize spot-fixing, Rahul said “It is really difficult for anyone to tell whether a player is doing an illegal thing. We cannot suspect a bowler every time he gets hit for a four. We cannot coach a team with that sort of mindset”, the ESPN Cricinfo reports.
