Though noted for his hard hitting batting style, the batting star will soon see himself notorious for unwanted things. Gayle’s controversial remarks in his recent interview to a female journalist from UK (The Times) has sparked a wild fire.
Following the incident, the Melbourne Renegades have announced that they are not going to renew or offer a fresh contract to Chris Gayle for the next year’s Big Bash League. The Melbourne franchise of the Australia’s BBL said that they have already warned Chris Gayle to stay away from such comments in a previous such incident during the Big Bash League and added that it has eventually taken the decision to expel Gayle out of the franchise due to his repeated incidents of misbehavior with female journalists.
The West Indian player may also face similar consequences from the English County club Somerset, to which he will be playing for, very soon. Somerset said that it is reviewing the incident and a decision will be taken soon in this regard.
The 36-year old defended himself saying that he had just been making fun and nothing more than that during the interview session. However, the chairman of the Indian Premier League looks unsatisfied with Gayle’s response. During a media briefing, Mr Rajiv Shukla said “When you are playing a tournament in a foreign country, you should behave yourself and maintain the spirit and dignity of the game. This type of behavior is not justifiable”.
The IPL chairman also added that he would take up the issue with the Royal Challengers Bangalore’s management and also the BCCI.
However, the BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke said that they are not bothered with the players behavior outside the game, unless, they receive a formal complaint in this regard. “As you see this incident took place between two foreign nationals and also outside the game. We are more bothered of finishing this tournament on a grand note than all such incidents, as it is in the final stage. It does not mean that we will not take up the issue, but, we will act only after getting a formal complaint from the victim”, he said.
