JAKARTA: Saina Nehwal, has eventually failed to become the first Women to win a Gold medal from India, in the World badminton Championships. She was defeated by the World number one seed and the defending Champion Carolina Marin by 16-21 19-21, in Jakarta on Sunday.
Saina failed to utilize the advantage of taking a lead in both the sets and ended up being second. However, she has become the first Indian in History to grab a silver medal at the World Badminton Championships. Nehwal, has also won nearly 20 International titles including the Olympic bronze medal.
The 24-year old has always been unlucky in the recent past. She suffered chicken pox once, followed by a stomach-bug which effected her participation in the tournaments. There were reports that Nehwal suffered a shoulder niggle even before the start of this tournament. Hopefully, the athlete did not allow it to bother her performance in the game, the Huffingtonpost reports.
On the other hand, the silver medal winner has been praised by several celebs, politicians and sports critics for her achievement. Sachin Tendulkar congratulated Saina Nehwal for making the nation proud through his twitter handle.
