India Test team captain Virat Kohli, opener Shikhar Dhawan and pacer Ishant Sharma, are all set to play under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir for Vijay Hazare trophy, to be held from December 10th,
When asked about the Indian test skipper not leading the side, Delhi’s chief selector Vinay Lamba said “We have announced Gautam Gambhir as captain for the whole season, assuming that international players will not be available. I don’t know why you people make it a big issue if Virat plays under Gambhir”.
The BCCI has allowed three of its national players to be available for the domestic tournament as the expected series against Pakistan from December 15th is unlikely to go ahead with the Indian Government yet to give its nod over the series.
However, the Delhi selection committee has also named three standby players in case the bilateral series go ahead. Dhruv Shorey, Vikas Tokas and Vaibhav Rawal were named as standby for Dhawan, Ishant and Virat respectively.
Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Ishant Sharma are currently playing the fourth test against South Africa, which the Indian team is closing for a win.
Named after the famous Indian cricketer Vijay Hazare and also called as the Ranji one day trophy, the Vijay Hazare Trophy was started in 2002 as a domestic competition played by the State Ranji teams.
