Team India’s test skipper, Virat Kohli expressed ‘best fielding’ as the need of the hour for his team, ahead of the second test of the five-match series against England at Visakhapatnam. Kohli opined that catches win matches and that it should not be neglected, exaggerating that his team should focus more on fielding in the Vizag test.
“From the Rajkot test, if there is anything we have to think more about, it is our fielding efforts. We have to increase our levels of fielding. If we are to win matches, it is very important that we convert those half chances into catches. We have missed many catches in the first test and as a result gave England a massive score in the first innings. The real damage has been done on the first day itself and so it became difficult for us to pull back the match”, skipper Virat Kohli said.
The Indian skipper also confirmed the inclusion of injured opener KL Rahul to replace Gautam Gambhir, who has not been impressive with the bat in the first test in Rajkot. “It all depends on the team combinations. Playing with KL Rahul and Murali Vijay as openers has always been on the cards for us. It is in Rahul’s absence that Gautam got chances to play. And I felt that he has really played well in different situations. But, at the end, it depends on the team combinations. We have to take some major steps to select the best eleven for the second test”.
When asked about rumors on Jayant Yadav replacing Amit Mishra in the Vizag test, Kohli said that he cannot confirm everything before the match, while hinting at major surprises in the playing eleven for the second test against England.
“Vizag’s pitch is a bit slow. Most of the time it offers assistance to spinners and in the last ODI that we have played against New Zealand, it has even favored the seamers. So our approach will be a balanced one this time. We don’t want to take any risks and our game from here on will be to win each and every game we play and not to think about playing for a draw”, he said.
India will play the second test against England in Visakhapatnam, starting November 17, 2016.
