England all-rounder Ben Stokes says that he had a feeling that the “whole world had come down” after losing in the World T20 final.
West Indies needed 19 to win and Stokes’ first four balls were all smashed over the boundary by Carlos Brathwaite.
“It was just complete devastation.”
The 24-year-old believes that he can use the lose to make himself a better player.
He says that his biggest emotion at the moment is disappointment especially when he remembers he had to pick a runners-up medal.
“It will be a little bit of motivation to make sure this does not ever happen again. So train 10 minutes longer every now and again to get better.”
Stokes described Brathwaite as a brilliant lad and praised his post-match behavior.
“We did not have a beer with them afterwards but Brathwaite came up to me and asked for a shirt,” he said.
“I wanted to make sure I spoke to them and say well done because I did not want people to think I was bitter.
“I wished them all the best. It is about respect to the opposition. What happens on the pitch stays on it.”
