When Apple made public the iOS 9.3.3, it went through about 2 months of public testing. Many people also expected that it would mark an end to the iOS 9 series, with anticipation for iOS 10 in September. But out of the blues, Apple has released iOS 9.3.4! So what is it that
you need to know? Let’s go through it…
Who does iOS 9.3.4 target?
Just like the previous iOS 9 versions, iOS 9.3.4 is meant for iPhone 4S and below, iPad Pro, iPad Mini range and the fifth generation of iPod touch. Users will get a prompt for them to upgrade, but in case the notification delays, one can manually trigger it. Got to General settings and open the Software Update.
It is important to note that iOS updates are not the same in all the devices. The size of this new update ranges from 20MB to 80MB.
So what’s new…?
As per the information provided by Apple, iOS 9.3.4 focuses on one thing: to provide an important security for the iPad or iPhone. Apple recommends that all users should update. But that statement is a vague one.
In the statement, Apple said that
“iOS 9.3.4 provides an important security update for your iPhone or iPad and is recommended for all users.”
Is it difficult to update?
If your device currently runs on iOS 9.3.3, the iOS 9.3.4 is a simple update and will need only 5 minutes to do the update. But if you are moving from anything lower than 9.3; then you may end up taking a little bit more time. We recommend that you use a high speed WIFI.
Verdict
The iOS 9.3.4 has come out of the blue and one can easily conclude it is motivated by Pangu’s recent jailbreak. If that is true, then this is the first time that Apple has released an update just for this purpose and it shows how focused the company is in stamping an activity it used to tolerate.
Putting that aside, there have been a number of report concerning problems with battery widget. This update may thus be of great importance to you. With iPhone 7 and 7S on the way this month, this may be the last update that iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPod 5th gen will receive.
