Facebook, one of the most preferred social platforms by the youth of the world, has surfaced its yet another strategy to track its users’ interests. Facebook has now come up with its new technology, which observes the behavior of its users. The social networking site, uses the observed data to provide its end user with the content of his interests in the news feed.
In the new way of tracking and observing the area of interest of its customers, the Facebook will know the interests of the user even if he hasn’t liked commented, or shared a post. With its new way, Facebook will observe the time spent by the user on a post and notes down the interests of the user based on the content he has viewed. The data procured will be used to fill the news feed of the user with his or her area of interests.
Software engineers Ansha Yu and Sami Tas said in a company blog post, ” From now to enrich the use experience we will provide with customized news feed content to every user based on his interests. Our new technology will observe the articles or posts on which the user spends more amount of time when compared to the other articles, based on those statistics every user will be provided with relevant articles of his interest”.
Facebook will consider a post as a area of interest to the user, if he spends more time on it than the other posts even if he hasn’t not clicked anything on that page or post. This would not surprise the users much, when compared to the previous statement of the Facebook that it tracks the activity of its users. This has even landed the Facebook in a legal rut in the European Union, but Facebook claims that it was interested in the deeper analysis of its customers.
Facebook claims that the statistical data that it procures, are used only to provide enriched content to its users and not for any advertising or commercial purposes, The Huffingtonpost reports.
