If you are one of the many people who own a Samsung Smart TV, then you may have come across an issue when trying to watch Twitch on your television. This is because most smart TVs do not provide a way to take in live streams from external sources such as Twitch. However, there are still ways that you can get around this and enjoy Twitch on your Samsung TV without any issues. The process is the same for almost all of the smart TVs out there.
We can now watch TV anytime and anywhere, but after shutting down the unofficial twitch app from most of the smart TVs including Samsung Smart TVs, how does one go about watching Twitch on a smart tv? This post will guide you through all of the steps required to watch twitch on your Smart TV in HD quality.
Why Samsung terminated Twitch app from their Smart TVs?
Samsung has to terminate the Twitch tv app from their smart TVs in 2019. Twitch doesn’t come officially on smart TVs. What Samsung was doing was providing the services unofficially.
So, by the request of Twitch authority, Samsung has to terminate the app from their TVs.
Different ways of watching Twitch on Samsung Smart TVs
Method 1: Buying Android TV Box
This is the simplest way of watching Twitch on your Samsung Smart TV. There are many companies that are offering cheap and reliable TV Boxes that are running on the Android operating system.
An Android TV Box is a small device that plugs into your television and allows you to stream movies, shows, and other videos from the internet. It can also be used as a streaming media player for video games or music.
What you have to do is go to Playstore and search for Twitch. Install and enjoy your favourite stream. Most of the TV Boxes have the Twitch app on their play store. Some people say that especially those who use Mi box, the stream becomes so laggy after a while. If you face a lagging issue or cannot find Twitch on the Playstore then the solution is to use another app called soundTV. It is available in Playstore. It will give you better playback without lag. Try it and let us know your feedback.
Method 2: Screen Mirroring
If you are not willing to spend any money then this method might be right for you. Screen mirroring is sharing your mobile screen with the TV. Most of the Samsung TVs and android phones support this feature.
Screen mirroring may be named differently for different smartphones. Some common names are:
- Wireless display
- Screen Mirroring
- Mirror Sharing
- Screen Share
First, make sure your TV and smartphone are connected to the same WIFI network.
Second, go to the screen mirroring option on your phone. Samsung smartphone users have to search for ‘Smart view’ on their phone.
Third, look for the available devices to share the screen. Tap on the TV.
Fourth, you should see a popup dialogue on the TV asking for your permission to accept screen mirroring.
You have successfully mirrored your smartphone screen to your Samsung TV.
Now go to Twitch app on your phone and start playing streams. This way you can watch Twitch on your Samsung Smart TV.
The downside of this method is the quality of videos may disappoint you as this is not a direct stream.
Mirroring iPhone to Samsung smart tv is a bit complicated and does not work every time. The solution for this is using Method 3.
Method 3: Using Tubio App
This is the best method for those who are not willing to spend any money on TV Boxes and compromise the quality of the stream.
The process is very simple.
First, make sure your phone and TV are connected to the same network and the TV is on.
Second, go to Playstore or Appstore and download Tubio app.
Third, open the Tubio app and tap on the tv icon on the bottom right corner, and select your TV.
Fourth, go to twitch.tv and play any video. You should see it playing the stream on the TV.
This method doesn’t lose playback quality. You can watch streams in HD using this method.
Method 4: Sideload Twitch App (For Android TV Only)
Android tv has Playstore but Twitch is not available on most TVs. The solution for this is sideloading the app.
It means you have to manually download the Twitch app from a third-party website and load that on TV.
The process may sound complicated but we will try to explain this in a simpler way.
- Go to apkpure.com and search for Twitch and download apk to your computer.
- Now upload the downloaded Twitch apk file to Dropbox. (You will get 2GB free storage if you create a new account)
- On the android tv box download Cx file explorer from Playstore.
- Open cx file explorer and go to the Network tab. Then select New location.
- Several cloud services will pop up. Select Dropbox and install the apk.
- Now you will not find the app on the app drawer. You have to go to Settings -> Apps and then launch Twitch.
The in-depth guide is here. (Make sure to use Cx file explorer instead of Es file explorer)
If you do not want to bear the hassle of going to settings over and over again then install an app called Sideload Launcher. You can find it on Google Playstore. Simply open the app and you can see all the sideloaded apps are there.
Method 5: Advanced Way (Not recommended)
This method is really complicated. But still works till. If you want to have a core experience with the TV then go for it. Here is the full guide.
