In order to make train journeys smooth and hassle-free, the Indian Railways is planning to roll out an integrated mobile app for multiple travel-related bookings ranging from hiring a taxi to ordering food online from favorite restaurants. As of now, there are apps for booking train tickets and ordering food online but not for other services.
“Our plan is to make the process of traveling more comfortable. We intend to provide all the basic services like booking hotel rooms, ordering food, hiring a taxi, porter, and other services through an integrated app. There are total 17 services that we intend to offer travelers through an integrated application”, a Railway official said.
“We do have an app for booking tickets and bedrolls online, but it is not enough in the present day competitive life where people often make sudden and unplanned journeys. To ease out this last minute pressure off the passengers, the Indian Railways has come up with the proposal of a single app with multiple services. We have already started working on it”, he added.
The application will be made available from January 2017 to more than 2 crore travelers, who commute in about 11,000 trains per day across 7,000 stations in the country.
In addition to this, the Indian Railways department is also gearing up to bring awareness among public on good sanitary practices, in line with the Central government’s Swaccha Bharat scheme. Also, the availability of battery cars in various important stations across the country will be increased in collaboration with private firms.
