iPhone 7 Review: A forecast into the future iPhone
Your first reaction when you come across the iPhone 7 will probably be “is this the new one?” And many will pardon you for that considering it is now a common response to the new iPhone 7. It has almost the same look as its past predecessor – the iPhone 6S.
But until you use the new device it’s when you will realize much has changed. Whereas Apple did not bring a much exciting phone in terms of looks, it is what is hidden in it that matter most.
When you open up the iPhone 7 case, you will meet a phone that proclaims decisive statements about the future. From the dual cameras in the iPhone 7 Plus, to the iconic new home button and wireless headphones, Apple is just suggesting a new era in technology. Of course you got it right, there is no more headphone jack.
Iphone 7 opens an era of future smart phone technology
The multibillion-company made quite a big gamble by deciding to remove the headphone jack. First, it risked upsetting the conservatives that are already used to the 3.5 mm jack and secondly, it is going to cause shakes in the market, with some of its products being dropped off. These include the 30-pin iPod connector, flash – Apple has decided it’s about time to do away with the headphone jack and many customers do trust it will make it happen, just like it has done in the past.
After having had a one-on-one experience with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, it seems that Apple has it all figured out on how the future iPhone should fit in our lives. One thing clear though is that iPhone 7 only marks this transition but does not clearly represent this future.
The question most iPhone lovers will want answered is whether the new iPhone series is worth an upgrade. Well, continue reading this review and explore more on the awesome additions.
This is the most recognizable aspect, so it is only wise to start with it. You will not get an immediate difference between iPhone 7 and iPhone 6 when placed side-by-side.but turning it over reveals some changes – with the new camera being seen to be bigger than the latter.
The iPhone 7 and iPhone Plus are now water resistant, which is a good thing. But be keen not to submerge them for more than 30 minutes. But the big win now is that these devices can now accidentally get wet and nothing much will happen. Some other main differences in design are the now blending antenna lines and the removal of the headphone jack.
But placing the iPhone in its case, it will have the same look as its predecessors. So, if you are the kind who upgrades his/her iPhone due to body redesign, you will probably be disappointed with this.
One of the most exciting thing that iPhone 7 brings to the market is a new generation camera. This is the biggest differentiator between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. With the big bro possessing a dual lens camera.
The iPhone 7 has a 12MP sensor – which is the same megapixels as last year – but coming with new features like a new lens, wider aperture, optical image stabilization and new image processor. Are we too technical? Well, this simply means that more light will get in to give you better colors and less blurry images.
The iPhone 7 Plus is the game changer, coming armed with dual lens camera. The first lens is same as the iPhone 7 while the second one is a telephoto. The lenses will operate jointly to produce optical zoom – something that iPhone has struggled with in the past.
A new Home Button
Most iPhone rumours have turned to be true and the latest is that this is the last iPhone featuring a home button. It is expected that the future iPhones will have the entire front being a touch screen. But that is not to say iPhone 7 has failed to modify the home button.
Instead of it being mechanically clickable, Apple has introduced pressure-sensitive solid state button. It will no longer move but instead reacts when pressed. One of the consequences of eliminating the headphone jack is that a new engine got space to make this a possibility.
The headphone jack
Even before the iPhone 7 launch, rumors of removing the headphone jack had already turned to be controversial – and may go on for a few months.
But Apple maintains that the headphone jack is outdated and that it is about time to take courage and look into the future. In doing so, Apple has provided two solutions to this: The first option is use the lightning port to listen to your music. It works fine but downside is that you will not listen to music as the iPhone charges.
The other alternative is to use the wireless headphones. The firm went ahead to unveil its own AirPods. These go for about $150 but the uptake in the market may be slow at the start.
But stating the facts, removal of the headphone jack has annoyed many people. What is even more disappointing is how Apple did not invest heavily in making wireless audio a better experience.
The iPhone has stayed in the market for about a decade. This is good in terms of experience but can also be negative for them, since with each new release, it becomes hard to make it better. Adjusting the screen size, developing a new processor and many other improvements prove a challenge each year.
But with this reality, mobile phone usage has gone up more than any other time in history. In a way, that’s what the iPhone 7 reflects: It is more durable, the battery is better, it can survive falling in the bath.
Apple has always had a way of making us yearn for that which we were not aware we should want. iPhone 7 is that not an exceptional, coming out as a phone based on functionality rather than looks.
