Less than six months from now and Apple will have launched the much hyped iPhone 8. The smartphone maker marks its 10th anniversary this year and has plans to bring onboard a curved all-screen OLED display.
The 2017 Apple flagship smartphone is set to experience big changes. The past three years have seen us presented with the same exciting design. But now iPhone owners want something more… more than they have ever had.
The changes begin with the name, some experts speculating that it will either be iPhone 8, iPhone X or iPhone Edition as opposed to the regular naming structure – iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus. Being a huge refresh for Apple, the name undoubtedly needs something tantalizing.
The iPhone 8 rumours so far have given us the impression that Apple is indeed making a complete overhaul of its smartphone. The rumours also point at the basic specs the iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus.
Possible Release Dates
- The iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus have been slated for launching probably September 2017.
- The curved, all-screen iPhone 8 will be launched slightly at a later date
What are the size options?
The 2017 iPhone sizes may come in different in sizes, ranging from 4.7-inch iPhone 7S and 5.5-inch iPhone 7S Plus. New changes will be witnessed in the 5.8 inch iPhone 8 which will also include a curved AMOLED display.
Don’t worry yet. The smartphone will not be as large as you might want to imagine. Apple has what it takes to make a large display while at the same time retaining the phone’s dimensions. Samsung already did that with its Galaxy s8.
Then the Home Button may be on its way out. This is set to be replaced with virtual keys. The idea is not far-fetched considering Apple managed to tweak the iPhone 7 Home Button by removing the earlier irritating longevity with a click sound when pressed.
But again, some may dispute the fact that Apple tweaked isn’t an indication the company is ready to remove it.
iPhone 8 Price
The price of the iPhone 8 remains a matter of speculation. Some sources, all the way from Morgan Stanley to Fast Company value the smartphone at $1000. The most recent details by UBS analyst predict that the 64GB model will have a starting price of $850, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. The iPhone 7S and 7S Plus on the other hand are said to start selling at $649 and $749 respectively.
3D Lasers
Apple has a wider range of options on how the iPhone 8 could be unlocked, and one way is the use of lasers.
This being the year of its 10th Anniversary, the firm has plans of releasing into the market state-of-the-art smartphone. The flagship device which many dispute whether it will be called iPhone 8 or iPhone X is slowly getting more exciting.
The latest leak obtained by MacRumors from JP Morgan analyst Rod Hall is that it will feature a 3D laser scanner on the front that will be used for facial-recognition technology.
Numerous iPhone 8 rumors suggest that Apple plans to kill the Home Button and have an all-screen front. And these support Hall’s assessment that doing so will allow a larger room for an edge-to-edge screen.
Remember the sci-fi movies? Well, Hall says that the facial recognition technology will be something close to that and will go a long way in helping ease Touch ID frustrations.
In addition, facial recognition will be more secure, allowing users the confidence to use Apple Pay.
But the 3D laser doesn’t just stop at the phone’s unlock alone as it will be possible to integrate it in other apps like augmented reality.
Wireless Charging
The iPhone 8 price details have been so far shocking. To make the device marketable, Apple will have to come up with a solid reason for you to dig deeper into your pockets. One of the ways of doing this is by introducing a technology that is booming in its rival companies – the wireless charging smartphone.
We are no longer talking of wireless charging as a future stuff; it is here with us. All that you require is a charging mat beneath your handset. But of course the technology is yet to be rolled out for all the smartphones, for instance, iPhones don’t have wireless charging – but that may be history after the release of the new iPhone 8.
A brand new Hot iPhone 8 Design
Yes, rumours have it that iPhone 8 will debut a curved screen but that can as well be disputed. However, the company’s CEO may have thrown some weight into the matter with the claim that one model of the smartphone “will adopt glass casing next year.”
Although most rumours regarding the design conflict, one undoubted fact is that iPhone 8 will have big changes.
