2017 has seen the emergence of a new trend in the smartphone world with supersized gadgets becoming the new thing in town. More and more people continue to demand for massive displays that are crammed within the superbly skinny bezels. And the latest Apple leak shows that iPhone 8 is ready to take such a leap.
After months of design leaks and cases released by third parties, Weibo has recently released new information that seems to back the claim that the 2017 iPhone will be radically enlarged.
The protective panel shown below is a close resemblance of the renders, schematics and third party cases, with some already on sale as a show of trust Apple has in its partners.
What replaces the 4.7 Inch iPhone?
The information gotten from all these leaks represents a jump from the 4.7 inch iPhone to 5.8 inches. That is a significant increase of 1.1 inches, much more than even what Samsung achieved in the shift from Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge to the new ‘Infinity Displays’ on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.
It is also understood that the additional space will be lost to a new feature called “Function Area” which will be based at the bottom and used as shortcut area in iOS 11. The new bottom notification will replace the traditional Home Button.
Judging by all the current indications, this is a massive size increase to the iPhone 7 but of course the information still remains a leak and not reality. Expectedly, skeptics will cast a shadow and claim that only when Tim Cook holds the 2017 Apple flagship device that they will believe the changes. But as at this moment, we have reached a point of consistency and confidently say this is how the iPhone 8 will look like.
What do we know about the iPhone 8 features so far?
iPhone 8 Camera
Without doubt, the iPhone 8 will experience a big upgrade, with some rumours suggesting an additional dual-lens camera.
The new camera will be differentiated from the old one in the sense that it will have a sideways orientation. This is known as gangster-style and will have quad-LED True Tone flash in between the two lenses.
The advantage of this camera is that it will work in line with Apple’s plans of including Augmented Reality capability in iOS 11.
Wireless Charging
So far the iPhone 8 price details have been shocking. To make the device marketable, Apple will have to come up with a solid reason for you to dig deeper into your pockets. One of the ways of doing this is by introducing a technology that is booming in its rival companies – the wireless charging smartphone.
We are no longer talking of wireless charging as a future stuff; it is here with us. All that you require is a charging mat beneath your handset. But of course the technology is yet to be rolled out for all the smartphones, for instance, iPhones don’t have wireless charging – but that may be history after the release of the new iPhone 8.
3D Lasers
Apple has a wider range of options on how the iPhone 8 could be unlocked, and one way is the use of lasers.
This being the year of its 10th Anniversary, the firm has plans of releasing into the market state-of-the-art smartphone. The flagship device which many dispute whether it will be called iPhone 8 or iPhone X is slowly getting more exciting.
The latest leak obtained by MacRumors from JP Morgan analyst Rod Hall is that it will feature a 3D laser scanner on the front that will be used for facial-recognition technology.
Numerous iPhone 8 rumors suggest that Apple plans to kill the Home Button and have an all-screen front. And these support Hall’s assessment that doing so will allow a larger room for an edge-to-edge screen.
Remember the sci-fi movies? Well, Hall says that the facial recognition technology will be something close to that and will go a long way in helping ease Touch ID frustrations.
