After weeks of leaks and speculation, LG has finally announced its next flagship device, LG G6, at the Mobile World Congress.
The new LG G6 is a complete redesign of the LG G5 and has been made to support split-screen applications.
The display has been splashed with an 18:9 aspect ratio instead of the usual 16: that most devices use.
The implication is that the phone’s screen will appear much larger when viewed in the landscape mode.
According to the presentation made at the MWC in Barcelona, the G6 will be focused on usability and reliability in which case the smartphone can be used by just one hand despite its large size. LG had acknowledged that the 2016 G5 was incomplete and as a consequence did not meet its sales target, reports Ubergizmo.
LG G6 Specs
The premium G6 will have an aspect ratio of 18:9 2880 x 1440 pixel 564ppi displays in addition to 5.7-inch size for a device that is actually 5.3 inches.
The Univisium screen technology has been integrated in this phone and LG hopes that this will soon be the future of display tech.
While marketing the new gadget’s changes, the firm says that most Play Store Apps have been designed to support 18:9 ratio and this means they can fit in more information within the display. The additional information is calculated to be about 11 percent.
The phone’s display also features HDR10 and Dolby 10, HDR imaging technology that is mostly used in TVs.
LG says that this new changes has made it possible for the company to make a device with a big screen yet can fit in the hands perfectly.
The G6 will come with 6 Android Play Store Apps pre-installed including Crossy Road, Temple Run and SimCity Builtit. These have been designed to take advantage of the new display technology.
LG G6 Camera
Just like the recently launched LG V20, LG G6 will feature a dual camera setup. All the dual rear cameras have been empowered with a 13MP sensors and a 125-degree field of view. The front camera on the other retains the stand used in most devices – 5 MP.
This new G6 has been distinguished from other phones because it is the first to integrate Google Assistant – a fierce rival to Apple’s Siri.
By removing add-on components like a higher quality audio processor, the LG G6 has been made much thinner than last year’s G5.
It also marks a return to the irremovable battery.
The G6 display size is 5.7in as opposed to its predecessor’s 5.3in. It also has enhanced brightness that boosts the HDR video playback making any compatible footage to appear more vibrant.
What’s more, it is water proof! It supports about 30 minutes of submergence in water.
The new phone is powered by Android 7 operating system and allows split-screen apps to work perfectly on it. Two same-sized square interfaces can be seen either side-by-side or one-above-the-other, depending on how the phone is held.
