The long-term rumors concerning Xiaomi release of its Mi Notebook Air are finally over. It is now official that Mi notebook Air will soon be in the market, which is a significant shift from the normal naming and design pattern of Apple’s laptops. The following are the finer details you need to know about Xiaomi’s first laptop offering.
Operating System
Mi Notebook Air runs on the highly coveted Windows 10 Home operating system. This resonates so well with the Microsoft die-hards.
Variety of sizes
The new laptop comes in two sizes; the first being 12.5 inch laptops while the other is 13.3 inches. As much as this does not satisfy the usual 15-inch size, it serves to make it easily portable. It perfectly fits in the mobile lifestyle that most laptop users have come to love.
Comparing to the Apple’s 13-inch Macbook Air, the 13.3 model is extra thinner and lighter. The 12.5-inch is contrast of Apple’s 11-inch Air. Whereas it is thinner, the 12.5 model is slightly heavier.
HD Display
Both sizes come packed with 1,920 x 1,080 pixels HD displays. That is equivalent to 176 pixels per inch on the 12.5 inch and 165 pixels per inch on the 13.3-inch model. This can be compared to Apple’s 130 ppi on 13-inch Macbook Air and 142 ppi on the 11-inch model.
Price Range
Without any doubt, Xiaomi has always carried the day when it comes to price. The 13.3-inch Mi Notebook Air goes for $750 while you will pay much less for the 12.5 model; $520. These prices are quite impressive considering they are about two-thirds of the cost of Apple’s products.
Specifications of the 12.5-inch
This is the smaller model whose specs are lighter compared to its big brother. It comes with it an Intel Core M3 CPU, 128 GB SSD via SATA and 4 GB of RAM. You get to enjoy dual AKG speakers and HDMI.
The downside
The smaller model has only one USB 3.0 port.
But that is easily overshadowed by the 11.5 hours of battery life.
Specifications of the 13.3-inch
This Mi Notebook Air has an Intel Core i5-6200U processor (up to 2.7GHz) with the NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU (with 1GB GDDR5 RAM). It also offers 256 GB of SSD and 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, while availing one empty SATA slot for Xiaomi-serviced memory expansion.
When fully charged, the battery life is 9.5 hours of usage. It also charges at a faster rate: 50% within half an hour.
Among other goodies in this Mi Notebook Air include dual AKG speakers, a backlit keyboard, a 1 MP webcam, HDMI port and two USB 3.0 ports.
China will be the first country to get the Mi Notebook Air on 2nd August. The global release date is yet to be announced.
