Microsoft has recently announced its ‘Microsoft SIM.’ Microsoft this time around is trying to target its Microsoft Windows 10 users. The company has seen a phenomenal success in terms of its latest OS, Windows 10. The operating system is becoming popular with mobile phones and other hand-held devices too. In an effort to get the most out of this positive trend Microsoft has recently announced a new app, Cellular Data.

What does this new Microsoft App do? It helps you remain connected to the internet even when you are not in the WiFi zones. Using this app, you will be able to buy data packs from internet carriers of your choice allowing you to be connected in non-WiFi zones.
Microsoft SIM is to act as a universal SIM whereby you will be able to buy data from the available internet service providers in the given zone. There is no need to signup for long term contracts.
As the app information on Cellular Data indicates it is designed to work only with, compatible Windows 10 devices that are installed with Microsoft SIM. Users will be able to purchase data plans from the ISPs using a Microsoft account via the Cellular Data app. Along these lines, Transtel a popular name in the European mobile industry and a Mobile Virtual Network Enabler has announced its partnership with Microsoft to provide the company with the technology.
According to Transtel’s announcement,
“Laptops and tablets equipped with Windows 10, a cellular broadband modem, and a Microsoft SIM Card utilizing Transatel’s 901 technology, will allow consumers to easily and conveniently purchase pre-paid 3G/4G-LTE data services that will enable a breadth of Windows 10 features and services when on the go.”
As users will be able to access various cross-cellular prepaid data plans for 3G/LTE networks and subscribe to the preferred plans instantly using the Cellular Data app. This move from Microsoft is also likely to lead to cheaper data costs when competing data packs are going to be listed side by side for the Microsoft 10 users.
Further finer details on the partnering networks, data plans and data prices are expected soon. However, currently Microsoft SIM is likely to be available only in the US and soon to be promoted in the other regions. As of now, it is also not clear whether the Microsoft SIM will support only data packs or whether it will also include voice and SMS plans.
