Famous mobile phone leaker Evan Blass is at it again. This time he has provided what appear to be renders of the new Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 1 phones. Nokia is expected to officially announce the 7 Plus at MWC later this month.
You may remember Nokia as the company that couldn’t keep up with Apple or Samsung in the mobile wars and sold itself to Microsoft. Then Microsoft did its very best to run Nokia in the ground making Windows phones that no one wanted. Now the brand is coming up for the third time under HMD Global’s ownership and, if the leaks are anything near the truth, they may finally be here to stay.
The 7 Plus will be HMD Global’s first foray into the Android One world. Phones running Android One run an unmodified version of Android. This means less apps that no one wants preloaded onto your phone. It typically also means a quicker software update cycle.
In the renders, the 7 Plus is shown in white with copper highlights and a chocolate brown with bronze highlights. The highlights show around the buttons, camera and the phone’s sides. “Android One” is stamped on the back. Also on the back is the fingerprint scanner under the camera similar to the arrangement on the Nokia 6.
The 7 Plus is expected to have a Snapdragon 660 processor. It is believed to have an 18:9 ratio for the display. The dual rear cameras are expected to feature Zeiiss lenses. There are also rumors to the effect of 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage with additional storage available through a MicroSD slot. The phone is expected to arrive with Android 8.0 Oreo.
Those dual rear cameras should come with 12 and 13 megapixels while the front-facing camera could have 16 megapixels.
The phone is also expected to come with a USB Type-C port and quick-charge technology.
These specs are not enough to put the phone in flagship territory, but they are respectable for a midrange device.
If the rumors are true, then Nokia should be in good position to continue their strong showing in the market. Recently, the company announced that their phones outsold HTC, Sony, Google, Lenovo and other Android phones during the holiday quarter. That was good enough to make HMD Global the 11th biggest smartphone vendor just one year after purchasing the brand from Microsoft. That’s a good start for the Finnish company.
Also leaked was information on the Nokia 1. The Nokia 1 is expected to be an entry-level phone from the company. Rumors say it has a 720p HD display, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. The compact form factor in the renders shows off two color variants not previously mentioned in the rumors. In the renders, the phone comes in black or red variations.

The renders show large bezels on the Nokia 1. The phone is expected to come with single-lens cameras. The OS on the phone is expected to be Android Go, a version of the Android operating system intended for phones with 512MB to 1GB of RAM.
These rumors have analysts expecting a good year for the new company in 2018.
