According to the sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked the Telecom department secretary Rakesh Garg, to ensure that the call drop issue be resolved as soon as possible, as it affects the common man.
The Department of Telecommunications has accordingly summoned TRAI to ask Telecom operators whether they have enough infrastructure and technology to serve their customers effectively. The move seems to be aimed at curbing the menace of call drops and also let people make technical decision to choose their operator.
Sources said that Telecom Minister Mr Ravi Shankar Prasad has already asked the TRAI chairman RS Sharma to come out with necessary guidelines which makes the providing of technical details to the customers mandatory.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is worried that the issue of call drop may affect the data services too in future. The DoT has issued notice to the operators to fix the issue speedily, as the intensity of the problem increased in the last 3-4 months.
On the other hand, the operators have sought for a 30-45 days time to address the technical issues, the Dna reports.
The DoT said that a penalty will be levied against the operators, if they failed to address the call drop issue within the stipulated time frame.
