This week saw thousands of Apple fans fill stores as they attempted to have a feel of iPhone 7 and iphone 7 Plus. The new iPhone series introduces a number of top notch features that will put Apple on its own league of smartphones. But that does not mean the tech giant is working in isolation. It has borrowed a number of ideas that are going to blow off consumers’ minds.
The following is a comprehensive discussion of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus features that have their roots in Android.
Removal headphone Jack
One of the iPhone 7 features that raised eyebrows was the removal of the headphone jack. Some are in love with it while others, well, not so sure whether to take this risky journey. But Apple said its taking this courageous step since the technology is faced out with time. This is no surprise, considering that it is Apple who eliminated the floppy disc completely.
But this is not a new iPhone feature because it began back October 2014 when OPPO brought into the market the R5 smartphone. This is one of the thinnest smartphone achieved by removing the headphone jack. Other brands such as Motorola Moto Z, Moto Z Force, Le Max 2 and Le 2 Pro followed suit.
The new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones are able to play music with a volume double that of iPhone 6s courtesy of their stereo speakers. But Android had started this technology much earlier in the HTC One M7 that comes with stereo speakers. The M8 and M9 also came out with the same technology before iPhone 7 did.
One of the most significant factors differentiating iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is the camera. The big bro comes with dual camera that is praised for having enabled zooming.
But in 2014, Android once again beat Apple to the technology when they developed the HTC One M8 with its selling ‘Duo Camera.’ It wasn’t that much effective but at least was a step in the direction of dual cameras.
Again in April 2016, LG G5 launched its dual rear camera featuring 16MP camera. Huawei had also launched in the same month the Huawei P9 with dual camera. The Huawei Honor 8 came out in August with a similar setup to the Huawei P9 with dual 12-megapixel cameras.
As much as Android conceived this idea of dual cameras, the move by Apple in the field could set the standards so high for others to reach.
You can now comfortably walk with your iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in the rain without fear of phone socking. The devices are also resistant to dust. This is a vital step that Apple has made to ensure its phones become durable without having to add clunky cases.
But the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, S7 and S7 Edge were the first to seriously feature this. Some other Android phones have been attempting to have water resistance to certain degree. Sony Xperia Z started in 2013, after Motorola’s Defy attempt in 2010.
