The department of Justice of the United States has said that it will ensure that its request for Apple to assist in unlocking an iPhone that is linked to a drug case in New York goes through.
In the letter that was filed to a local court, it was stated that the government is in need of the Apple’s assistance.
There is a judge order to the Apple to work with the authorities in another criminal case in Boston according to the unsealed court papers. According to the judge rule, it was very reasonable to request the Apple to extract information and data from the iPhone involved in the case.
Marianne Browler, the United States Magistrate Judge had made the Boston order in the month of February but this came to be unsealed only on Friday.
Last Month, in another case which is separate, the FBI decided to drop a court ruling the demanded Apple to be involved and help the investigators in unlocking the iPhone that belonged to San Bernardino killer, Syed Farook.
According to the FBI, it was able to gain access to the device independently without any help from the apple. The method which the FBI used is said to be only functional on some of the iPhone’s older models.
In the Boston case, the device involved is said to belong to Desmond Crawford, alleged gang member and it is a later model of iPhones which cannot be accessed using the method which the FBI had used.
