The World’s most popular instant messaging app has rolled out it’s new version of WhatsApp for Android users with a whole five new features. The latest version of v2.12.250 was released after a month of beta testing. The addition of new features to the messaging app, brings in more privacy and control over your messages. It also decreases the amount of data used while making WhatsApp calls. Here are the five new features that WhastApp has added to it’s android version.
WhatsApp brought in a new feature of customized notifications for every individual contact. The feature was earlier available only for the whole app. For instance, a ringtone can be set for a specific contact, so that you know that a message was from a particular person without looking at your smartphone. Similarly, you can enable or disable custom notifications like notification light colours, custom call and message ringtones, enable or disable vibrations and pop-up notifications for each contact.
Previous versions of WhatsApp only offers the feature to mute group conversations. With the latest release, users can mute individual conversations to stop unnecessary notifications. Any contact can be set to mute for three different time periods of 8hours, a week and a year.
WhatsApp has added a new option to reduce data consumption while on WhatsApp calls. This will definitely save data for those who use WhatsApp calls regularly.
The new version of WhatsApp now offers more number of emojis and also several skin tones for the same. Which means, one emoji can be accessed in four to six different colors, the Times of India reports.
WhatsApp messages can now be marked unread even after reading them. However, this feature does not make the message as ‘unread’ on the other end. It helps in highlighting a message to be read at later time.
